How much does construction bookkeeping cost for a builder?

What drives the price, and what we charge.

Short answer: Construction bookkeeping for a custom home builder is usually priced by the amount of work: active homes, bill volume, entities and how clean the books are today. BrikBooks publishes flat prices: Builder Books is $1,500 a month for up to 5 active homes, and Builder Controller is $2,900 a month for 6 to 10 active homes.

What drives the price

  • Number of active homes and how many cost codes each one uses
  • Bill and card volume each month
  • Number of entities, such as a separate company per spec home
  • Draw and lender reporting needs
  • How far behind the books are today

How to compare quotes fairly

Compare the same scope. Ask each provider if the price includes job cost by house, change order tracking, draw package prep, a monthly review and a firm close date. A lower price that leaves job costing to you is not the same service.
